« My dog is in labour and her waters have gone?

I recently got my little dober’s ears cropped. Their cropped in the medium crop and I know from past experience from my male they took months to stand. I have heard that if you feed them 1-2 teaspoons of cottage cheese a day over their kibble it will help the ears stand quicker because of the added calcium. Is this true? Or is there any other secrets?
Thanks AlotNo, calcium has to do with bones. the ears are cartilage not bone.
If you have questions, ask your vet.

your right people will do exactly as they please, including speaking their minds. everyone has their opinion about docking and cropping. no one volunteered you as the "dog section police".The dog needs no calcium supplementation if being fed properly to begin with – it is actually detrimental to the bone/joint growth if not done appropriately and it has nothing at all to do with ears standing or not. The amount you are considering won’t necessarily hurt anything but htey won’t help ears to stand at all. Ears stand utilizing muscles and connective tissue, not calcium based at all.
Obviously you didn’t get the pup from a good breeder since it came to you uncropped already so you can’t contact the breeder and get good input like you should be able to do. Simply keep them posted and hope the vet did a decent job as so many don’t know at all how to crop and that is what makes the difference in properly standing – proper crop and someone that knows how to properly prop the ears.
Just keep them properly propped and hope the vet did it correctly.
add: Actually vets are VERY poor sources of information about cropping and aftercare. Unless the vet is someone that is a known excellent cropper, and there are very few of them, then they don’t know much. They don’t train ear cropping or aftercare in vet college so unless they have extensive experience in the breed or other cropped breeds, they usually aren’t any good. I have utilized various vets throughout the country and discussed aftercare with many more and they just do a very poor job and don’t have a clue about propping.I have never heard that. But it doesn’t surprise me in the least. You hear everything nowadays. On the posting, just keep them posted and be patient yet persistent. If it was a good crop they will stand. I was lucky with my boy his ears turned out lovely and they stood in a few months. Alot of the times it also depends on the owner, if your lazy you wont get a good outcome. It takes time, hard-work, and patience. When you take them down to let them rest and you see one starting to flop, post them up right away. In the end it’s worth it.Follow your vets advice on how to tape them up. The ears are not bones they are cartilage so the cottage cheese will not help or any other calcium additive. Every dog is different and it may not take as long as your last one, patience will be on your side for sure. One thing about cottage cheese, not really good for dogs. Take a good look at the sodium amount!! If you wanna use something use plain yogurt, much better for the dog.
Good luck and have patience!I haven’t heard of it either and I have dobermans. But of course different people will say different things for their beliefs. With mine I always made sure the ears stayed extremely clean in their posted state and only let them down for alittle while. If I saw one get weak, right up they would go. I have never had a problem with my dog’s ears standing.
…And for the people that think it is cruel. Please keep your comments to yourself. People will do as they please. It isn’t bone that forms the ears, it is cartilage. calcium will have no effect. Personally, I’m against tail docking and ear cropping, but it isn’t my dog. Our min pin’s tail was done before we got him, but we left his ears natural.luvmymichaelm, I wish I had a a doberman pinscher.Posting the ears and taping them and not letting them stay floppy for any length of time will help them stand quickly. The secret is to follow your vet’s directions on caring for the ears after cropping. It’s that simple.I have never heard of that & doubt that it is true.
Just keep them posted for the required time.NO,it’s NOT!!!
There are no BONES in dogs’ ears that would benefit from added calcium.Ears are cartilage…I do not see how added calcium would help that.following your vets advice will help them stand. Do your ears feel stronger after you eat cottage cheese? Mine dont!
