« My dog is 11 years old and he just recently started a new habit…?

so… we used to have a dog like a year or so ago and he was great, a Cockapoo. unfortunately he was stolen when my grandparents were taking care of him when we were out of town so we are finally looking for a new dog, but me and my dad and my mom all have different views of what the dog should be…
i want like a furry small dog that can become hyper, but also wont be jumping off the walls when we take him to places like restaurants and such, which also shows the need for his smallness so he dosnt knock stuff over. also i wish him to have soft, longish fur
my dad wants a dog that is small-medium, isnt a big wienie, like we can take him to the lake or fishing and such and he wont be afraid of everything, also wont get “eaten” in our backyard (theres alot of animals like deer and other animals i dont know of) and he wont be able to squeeze through the gate which is about 4″ of opening. and wont get “stepped on”
and my mom wants an outdoor dog who dosent shed much.
ps. we have a large yard with a sorta greenbelt behind it and 4 kids (including myself) that are 7, 10, and 14
thanks alotFirst of all, you cant take a dog to a restraunt.. only SERVICE dogs are allowed in restraunts. It doesnt matter what size dog.. dogs are only allowed in places like petshops, parks, etc.. any place that sells or serves food can NOT allow a dog.. small or big dog.. either its allowed or its not allowed.
Im assuming “outside dog” means one that enjoys outdoor activities with the family. NO dog should be housed outside.
Here’s a few breeds your family can check out together.. do some research on them, you will have to come to a compromise on what will fit best for your family.
here’s some smallish dogs that are somewhat “sturdy” and may enjoy outdoor activities with the family.
Mini Schnauzer
Mini Poodle
Mini Dachshund
Beagle
Cocker Spaniel
Bichon Frise
Lhasa Apso
Sheltie
Border Terrier
Brussels Griffon
Cardigan Welsh Corgi
Pembroke Welsh Corgi
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
Havanese
LowChen
I would recommend a West Highland White Terrier.
These dogs are very family-oriented and loyal. They are playful but can also calm down and rest with you when you want to. Another perk is that for a “small” breed, these dogs are one of the hardiest and “toughest” for their size. They are good dogs to take to the lake, good dogs for exercise, and good dogs for simple, quiet family time. Good luck!I’d go for a cardigan welsh corgi, though the pembroke welsh corgi’s are great dogs too. Now you can’t smuggle either dog into a restaurant but I think it’s illegal for any dog, other than a service dog, to go into a place that serves food. I hope you can all decide soon. It’s awful not having a dog around the house.Silky Terriers. They’re a lot like Yorkie’s but stronger, healthier and not so over bred. They can get up to 10 pounds and their fur is just like their name. You can keep it long or short ( I prefer short). I have two one is really shy and quiet while the other is playful but likes to cuddle. It really just depends on the dog. And they’re fiesty little suckers too. Hoped this helped.sounds like u guys want a big dog inside a small dog’s body. u won’t be able to get a small dog if u have a 4in opening in ur gate, i suggest you look a size higher. why not just get a full breed cocker spaniel? it’s fluffy and soft, not too big, can be hyper yet calm, and i’m sure no dog will get eaten by a deer.pick a dog that fits you the most. (like the same personality)
small dogs or big dogs.
sounds like you agree to buy a big dog than a small dog.
pick the right dog for you and your dad.
i hope you make a wise decision on which dog to buy.
=) good luck finding a dog
How about a staffordshire bull terrier or a english bull terrier there both great with kids a big dog in a small body ok not so hairy which would please your mom, and are great family dogs.maybe a miniature australian shepherdDogs that don’t shed much should not be left outside. Actually, I would never sell any of my pups if I knew that they were going to be shoved outside. (unless they are working farm dogs)
Your dad sounds like he would really like an australian shepherd. They only weigh about 35-40 pounds. They need a ton of mental and physical stimulation. They are very loyal. With a quick daily brushing, their coats are very maintainable.
However, a dog that would fit your whole family, to me, sounds like a miniature schnauzer. They have hair and not fur, so shedding is minimal. They are tough and tenacious little dogs, and are also very loyal. They could easily go hiking, camping, jogging as a matter of fact, my old schnauzer loved to go mountain biking. And they love to cuddle right up in your lap and watch a movie. They are great little dogs, my boy weighs about 25 pound. (that might be to high) Again, I need to stress that schnauzer should not be left outside.you can also read books about dogs. shedding can be taking care of with regular brushing. i dont think there is such a thing as a hyper dog that won’t jump on walls they all do.
there is energetic dogs. look into border collies. they are lovely. most intelligent breed out there. but on the other hand, demands alot & alot (ALOT) of exercise(walks walks walks). great dogs.
other than that…hmm..german shepherds too. australian shepherds. bernese mountain dog.
you might have alot of fun with these breeds. just get more information
