I have a shih-tzu, and we live in Upstate NY, where the winters get really really cold. So I want to give him warm milk to some what, warm him up. Is this okay? is there anything else i could do besides drying him up, and putting a sweater on him?Milk is NOT "poisonous".
OR dangerous or dirty or any other lamebrained blather spouted here!
A small proportion of dogs can’t handle milk, like a SMALL percentage of PEOPLE!
Dogs do *NOT* need "warm" drink of anything.
Dogs do NOT need clothes.
If a dog gets wet,a towel will do wonders. If you want to give him warm milk (it’s your choice!) give him Goats milk. Cow’s milk isn’t good for dogs – goats milk is closer in makeup to b itches milk and is therefore tolerated better by dogs. He really doesn’t NEED milk however, assuming he’s an adult.
My hounds survived Canadian Winters, provided they were dried properly when they came in, and lived in a warm, and most importantly, draft free environment. In fact they loved the Winter, provided mum spent hours digging paths through the snow for them, when we had a dump – Bassets (males) and deep snow is ouch painful – for obvious reasons!
If you want to coat your lad to protect him from the worse Winter can throw at you (wind especially), again that’s your choice, but nature does provide a dog with natural protection (in all but a few breeds).please! don not feed your dog warm milk. especially the milk we drink. in some cases where owners give their dog milk, the dog ended up dead because of certain bacteria in the milk that does not match up with the dog’s system.
if it’s cold, a warm heater will do nicely. you can place your dogs bed near it but not too near it gets burnt!!!
Also you could have more blankets in the house so that he can snuggle up wherever and whenever he wants while being with you rather than always having to go in a certain room to keep warm and being away from you.
I’m not so sure about feeding dogs warm food or drinks so i’d advise you not to try it until having searched through at least 3 different web sites that tell you the same thing.
hope this helps and keep warm!!
Sometimes, milk in easy on a dog stomach, as long as it is low fat, skim milk, but often times results in diarrhea. Bad diarrhea.
Dogs really don’t need stuff like that. They stay warm on their own. Don’t you have heaters in your house?
As long as your dog has fur, it should be fine. No, dogs should not have regular milk. It is bad for them. There is a dog milk that is given to puppies. You can purchase it at a pet store.Definitely not milk it gives most dogs diarrhoea big style.

I have come to help you… I am a Professional Vet and I have these questions all of the time. My answer to this question is yes, it is fine, shiatsu’s are very different dogs to all of the others because they have a different liking and are just like little puppies every time!
So, yes, it is fine that you give him warm milk.
From Vet Marika Hazlett As long as it’s not burning hot, why not?
I used to rub Eucalyptus oil mix with baby oil, of course just a bit of Eucalyptus and beside ticks and fleas, it also warm him a bitits ok as long as he doesn’t have aids

My dog burps and then kind of coughs she has been doing this pretty much all her life. If she eats anything at all besides her dog food she throws up. What could this be? She tee tee’s and poops normal.
