My dog’s ALT liver enzyme is quite high. The vet said that their particular lab says it should be between 50 and 107 and my dog’s is 223. The vet is concerned about leptospirosis, but she is now on antibiotics. However, none of her kidney or other liver enzymes were elevated. Her blood counts came back normal as well. She is about 2 years old, and is a yellow labrador retreiver. My main concern is about either liver cancer, or chronic hepatitis. We will continue her course of amoxicillin until she’s finished, and then start a course of doxycycline in case it is leptospirosis. She’s not showing any symptoms except slight fatigue, and disinterest in normal activities. Can someone please put my mind at ease so that I can feel more confident that my baby will be with me for quite some time more?ALT (alanine aminotransferase) or SGPT (serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase) is a liver specific enzyme. It is concentrated in the cytosol and is released when localized liver cells die from infection or due to the interruption of blood supply. Serum levels increase two to three days after the liver has been affected and return to normal after a couple of weeks of treatment. Generally, two to three times the normal level is considered insignificant and only a persistent increase is considered to be abnormal. ALT levels may go up four to five times the normal level even in non-hepatic disorders like inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, hemolytic anemia, and heart failure. Dogs undergoing treatment with anticonvulsants and glucosteroids, or those that have an inhibited flow of bile may also show a moderate increase in ALT levels.
Link: www.nativeremedies.com/petalive/a…shes young and the fact that her ALKP alk phos, another liver enzyme isnt elevated is good
your vet is doing a good job at ruling out lepto
keep on doing what your doing
recheck values in a couple weeks
if no improvement talk with your doctor about further workup of the liver like xrays, biopsy and or ultrasound
but for now just monitor her for vomiting and diarrhea as these are signs of lepto
lepto is also zoonotic
also make sure she is eating/drinking normally
This happened to my dog as well. His was in the 800s. My vet had us switch his food to Prescription Diet Canine RD. She said something like it had to do with the fat content in his blood even though he was not overweight. After having him on the reduced diet food the levels went back down to normal.Unfortunately, there’s no way of knowing here on Y!A exactly what is causing the problems. Just keep doing what you’re doing, working towards a resolution, and loving her with all your heart! My best of wishes and luck to you.I had a cat with elevated liver enzymes
I gave her dandilion (3 days only) then milk thissel
this is for the liver to heal it.
if it doesn’t do good it won’t hurt.

Ok, I have a son who is 30 and his fiance. They have a beautiful husky that they got almost 2 years ago from a very reputable husky breeder. Now they want another one. Well, they went to a pet store called Just Puppies and saw a 10 week old husky that they fell in love with and now they want my advice as to what to do. I told him all about puppy mills and he asked how do I know it is a puppy mill dog. I told him that a reputable breeder would never let anyone else sell a one of their dogs and that all dogs from a breeder should be on premises with mom and dad. He said he’d be saving the dog since it had a bad start if it was from a puppy mill. I told him that he would be just perpetuating these people to do it more if he bought there. The fiance who I love like my own kid, said they took their dog in to meet the puppy and they loved each other. I don’t know what else to tell them. I told him to google puppy mills and now the fiance says they have to save her from this even more. Anybody have any suggestions or is it up to them now and time for me to just go with the flow? Thanks for any advice. Oh and I told them to go to a husky rescue, shelter etc etc. I am upset about this but I think it’s time for me to just let them do what they’re gonna do I guess.
