He started peeing in the house. He has always been good about going outside. In the past if he did go in the house and you brought him near it he would be ashamed and tuck his tail between his legs. Now he’ll just lift his leg and go to the bathroom. He is loosing his eyesight too. But he has been loosing it for 4 years. My family is getting really fed up with it, what should I do? What can I tell them?Sometimes older dogs get senile and forget where they have to go. There is not much you can do except try to keep him confined to a part of the house and frequently show him where the door is to go out. His poor eyesight might contribute to his insecurity too. If you have a crate and he is comfortable in it, then don’t be afraid to use it now. Before you decide you dog is becoming senile you might want to consult your vet. The old guy might have developed a urinary tract infection. It’s possible he can’t wait to go outside. Also he may feel some discomfort from the UTI that is relieved when he urinates. Give him the benefit of the doubt until your sure he can’t help it. Oh, and I really don’t think eyesight would have anything to do with it

My pitt seems to do ok with female dogs, but she will attack a male dog. But, is was ok with my male puppy that is only about 7 inches tall. Why are you breeding an aggressive dog? Temperament is an inherited trait. Females will usually be more aggressive to intact males. Usually because they want to breed her…it’s her way of saying “no” Since she’s already bred.
Of coarse it depends on the dog. Some dogs will have no aggression, while some dogs want to be completely solitary during pregnancy and birth. Is she still intact? Did he try to mount her? Is the puppy hers? Was the male around the puppy? She maybe have been trying to protect it. Could have been several different triggers. Body language from the male. Something you did not notice.
As you can see people on here do not understand genetics and dog aggression….i have three female pits my first ***** i bought when i took a trip to new jersey and i bred her with my buddys pit and kept a female pup.and my third is a red dobie/pit mix.but my ***** did go after the male every now and then.really i just think its because shes pissed he put her in that situationyes its normal she is starting her protective mother skills and she will get worse when she haves the pups she would try to kill if she thinks he is going to harm them but if you she is close to giving birth if she is doing that so keep an eye on her and go ahead and seperate them Female dogs may be extra cautious or even defensive when pregnant and after giving birth, but it’s not something I would encourage.maybe she’s only dangerous becasue she’s defending her puppies.
idk.

We can’t decide on names for our two yorkie puppies we will be picking up in December. Any suggestions?Rocky and Bullwinkle
Gumby and Pokey
Hershey and SnickersWell it would depend on what you are into…and their personality. I think the best thing is to make a list of like 6 different names you love. When you get the puppies, you can make a decision.
Greek god names
Tough names are funny for little dogs
Names from books, or movies
I think it should reflect something you like (you have to say it all the time) and fit the dog’s personality too!
Good luck
hi,
Yorkshire Terriers–’Yorkies’ to their friends and fans–often travel about town in the purses of their fashionista owners. They wear hair accessories, to keep that silky topknot out of their eyes. But they still want to be taken seriously. So we rounded up Yorkshire Terrier names, for both boy and girl dogs, which capture the breed’s glamorousness without getting too foofy (mostly).
here are some choices:

I know that they get a comission for it, but come on!
Why do they? The food is absolute crap and poisonious so why do they?
Why not advertise something good like Innova? Not all of them carry Science Diet….my old vet in Florida carried Innova and a similar brand I can’t recall the name of. She was also one of a growing number of vets who didn’t “shoot down” a properly educated & planned raw-diet. She practiced traditional medicine but her business partner was a holistic vet who could do accupuncture, etc.
It’s marketing, simple marketing. SD makes a line of formulas available ONLY to vets, “prescription diets”….and as such, also hawks their regular dog food to be sold on the shelves. I used to work for a vet and it was my job to control the Science Diet inventory, recieve the shipments every 2 weeks, and stock the food when I recieved it….and every time, the guy running the sales & delivery route would speak with the vet & try to convince him to carry additional products.
I’ve ran across enough vets who are ignorant of responsible breeding practices (one in my former hometown bred Lhasas, several litters a year with NO health tests & no spay/neuter contracts, another bred Yorkies the same way)…..that it’s not hard for me to believe that a lot of vets aren’t incredibly well-versed in nutrition & commercial dog foods.
On the other hand, vets see so many clients who feed Ol’Roy and store brand dog foods, that hawking Science Diet is arguably a big “step up” for plenty of folks. The vet I used to work for, wouldn’t bother suggesting Science Diet to anyone feeding a reasonably decent brand of food. Especially if the dog was healthy & didn’t have any skin/coat/odor issues. It’s only when the dog was eating a poor diet AND displaying obvious health issues, that the vet would suggest Science Diet. Exactly, because they get paid to stock it, and many vets really have no concept of dog nutrition, they just don’t go into it. My vet won’t sell regular Science Diet, he does know what dogs need to eat – meat, not corn meal fillers.
It’s not “poison”, but it sure isn’t good nutrition for dogs, lots of corn meal and artificial preservatives.
The canned speciality Science Diet is, however, another story – it is tailored for special needs dogs and does help for certain illnesses.Well, it is not as if vets spend all day testing the hundreds of different foods out there – nor do vet students learn about which brands are the best in school. Also, most vets don’t get money from this – they get free samples, like with human drugs.
SD isn’t poisonous. I would not feed it to my dogs – there are better foods out there – but calling it poisonous crap is wrong. And most of the additives you listed are also found in human food, especially candies. Again, not stuff I would eat or give to my dog, but reasonably safe. Oh, and they are also found in human drugs and human cosmetics.
Most vets will tell you to just pick a food with a real protein, no fillers, and no preservatives.Because most pet owners out there buy things like Old Roy and dont understand that different companies and different foods have different ingrediants, and Science is the best of the worst. If a vet wants to have a real conversation with a pet owner who knows what theyre talking about, then of course they would discuss things other than Science Diet, get real. Most people dont even know why they need Rabies shots. To each his own. They market it because they get paid to. I personally believe its directly responsible for bringing a cat I had back from the brink of death. We still don’t know what he and our other cat had but it killed her and she was half his age. I put him on the Science Diet Kitten food. The turn around was quite amazing. In the space of a few weeks he went from skin stretched over bones to a very healthy, if old, cat. He lived another 5 or 6 years.
I’m going to assume the cat food and the dog food are worlds apart in quality if the majority of responses are so negative to the dog food. Here is the deal. A lot of the vets that practice don’t have degrees in animal nutrition. They might have taken like ONE class in their studies. I think it is just ignorance rather than intentional. And no, not all vets get kickbacks from selling science diet.
There is ONE good thing about this food. All of the ingredients are from america, and it is manufactured in america. Some market science diet because they truly believe it is good food, but they are way wrong. The best food for dogs are Innova and Buffalo Blue dog food. Buffalo Blue has no animal by products. It is an all natural food that is made with deboned chicken.Their cut of the price is higher than most other foods.
Most vets have NOT had dietician classes so don’t know full nutrition for dogs and cats.
The sales people for science diet are out there doing their best to get their food into the clinics.Because, Science Diet dog food provides scholarships to young vets going through school, in return if they happen to open there own vet office that have to sell the food and they get a kick back…So this is why they push this food. how would they know? they only got a tiny potion of nutritional training, ushually by reps from the big pet food companies.Because they’ve been brain-washed by the Hill’s company, it’s really sad, most of them actually believe this food is great for all pets.$$$$

because im not sure if she is mix toy or mini poodle
thanks a lotjust average both dog breed’s weight and height expectancy and there you go.
so if part 1 is 2-10lbs
and part 2 is 3-15lbs.
expect a 2-15lb dog.
dont listen to the “its a mutt” people there really ignorant, they think that there purebreed dogs are special.
All dogs are created equal. lolThe maltipoo isn’t a breed. Therefore you have no real idea of what the size, height and weight will be. The basic definition of a breed is that a dam and sire of that breed will “breed true” or consistently produce dogs that meet the standard. But you’re mixing two breeds and thus half of a litter could look like maltese, the other half poodles. If you’re talking a standard poodle, size of the dogs could vary from 7 pounds to 70 pounds.
Also, the post that said to just “average” the measures of the dam and sire is clueless. Genetics (and breeding) is not like mixing paint. You could mate a dog with a black coat and a dog with a brown coat and get a litter of puppies all with white coats. In fact, probably the least likely result is an average. The quick explanation is that at each genetic marker (coat color, coat length, eye color, etc.) each mammal has two alleles. When a litter is produced, each parent contributes one allele. And alleles can be dominant or recessive. So you don’t know which alleles each parent contributes.
Third, the whole concept of designer dogs is based upon an ignorance of genetics. It assumes that if you mate a maltese and a poodle, you get a dog with the traits of each–a compromise or “average” of sorts. And that isn’t true. Because it ignores which traits are dominant and recessive.
I think calling mixed breed dogs mutts is a bit harsh. There are plenty of great dogs that are mixed breeds. In agility, they’re referred to as “all-American” dogs. But what makes so many people so angry about these designer dogs is that either it’s a case of an ignorant breeder who doesn’t have a clue or it’s a case of a ripoff artist. In either case, the vast majority of dogs in shelters (and those being euthanized) are mixed breed dogs not different from the maltipoos, goldendoodles, jackarats, puggles, juggles, pittles and what-nots being cranked out. To intentionally breed mixed breed dogs is irresponsible. Not because there aren’t some good dogs in there, but because it doesn’t improve the breed and most mixed breed dogs will end up being euthanized.
Finally, the post that the AKC has recognized mixed breed dogs and will continue to do so is just completely uninformed and wrong. Like or dislike the AKC (and I have a number of criticisms of them) but they don’t recognize designer dogs as breeds–not even close. I can tell you know that before the AKC acknowledges a breed to exist, you need a breed club, an agreed upon standard, and several decades of consistent breeding plus proven lineage. Case in point: the rat terrier has been around since Teddy Roosevelt has been President, has had reputable breed clubs since 1960′s and AKC still doesn’t recognize rat terriers as a full breed–participation is only limited to agility and field events. What AKC has floated the idea of is NOT recognizing designer dogs but of allowing them to compete in field events–if neutered and even then, it would be categorized as a mixed breed dog, not as a malteagle or westaniel or whatever the mix is.My friend has a pekipoo, it’s about full grown and it’s ~10 pounds, give or take. Your dog will probably be similar sized, but it also depends on the type of poodle, whether it was a toy, mini, or standard poodle (although I doubt it was standard….that would be sort of…weird).
As for the comment about mutt nicknames, it’s easier when you know the specific type of mutt the dog is when you’re diagnosing possible problems. For example, certain breeds have allergies that are consistently seen in their breed. (i.e. dachshunds are often allergic to something in the lepto vaccine). So nicknames can help your vet out when theres a problem, and it sounds better when you talk to your friends. Yeah, sure, in the end it’s just a mutt, but a dog is part of your family, and it sounds nicer to tell your friends that you have a “maltipoo” than to say “eh, who cares, she’s just a mutt”.
Also, the AKC will sometimes add “mutts” into their list of accepted breeds. I think I heard they were considering adding cockapoo’s into their breed list a few years back. No idea because your dog is a mutt. You’ll just have to wait and see.
On a side note: I am sick of people calling their dogs maltipoo’s, golden doodles, scnoodles, ect. They are MUTTS!!! Call them what they areshe’s a mutt.. you wont know until she’s grown. It doesnt matter if its a toy or mini poodle.. because she’s a mixed breed dog, you just wont know until she’s grown.she will not be to big but it would get around 8-15 pounds
i am called the dog man along with a few other names involving dogsWell since she is a MUTT you can’t tell for sure.shes a mutt, so no one knows. You got ripped off unless you adopted from a shelter
