I would like to breed my chi in the next few months and I’m just looking for some good tips to a healthy pregnancy.
Thanks in advanceCoat it with egg and pat it with flour. You’ve got a lot more learning to do than to expect to breed her in a few months.
You need to start by showing her and earning her CH title on her.
In the show ring, you can find yourself an exerperienced breeding mentor.
Your mentor can help you research breeding, whelping, genetics, puppy raising.. as well as help you research your dog’s pedigree.
You need to develop a good relationship with your vet, and save up a lot of money.
When she’s 2 years old, you get genetic health tests done thru the OFA, CERF, BAER and Optigen, as well as a brucellosis test.
After you’ve done all this and you still feel you are ready to breed, your mentor can help you select a nice stud who’s titled and tested. When breeding an animal one must take into careful consideration the risks and requirements. Often there are laws and permits that must be paid for (permits) and obeyed (laws) for proper breeding. Is your female AKC registered, checked for hip problems, DNA tested and verified? Do you have these required permits to breed? If you do not it would probably be a good idea not to breed the dog. If your dog is found to have these, or the pups produced from the "back yard breeding" as its called in the pet world… you could be sued for misrepresentation.
Have your ***** checked out by a vet to make sure she doesn’t have any genetic conditions that you might be unaware of.Make sure she’s the right age to breed, 2 or older. Make sure she’s very correct in the breed standard and has a very good personality. Keep her on a high quality meat based food. Talk to another Chi breeder to get more info, go to a dog show to see the correct confirmation of a dog like yours and talk to people that show and have Ch. in their kennel. If you have to go online and ask questions about breeding your dog, you shouldn’t be breeding. Why do you want to breed your Chihuahua when there are plenty of breeders out there that breed for quality and know what they’re doing? You need to just get your dog spayed and call it a day. Its healthier for her; she will be more susceptible to different cancers if she is not spayed.
Do you really want to contribute to the pet overpopulation crisis? Most dogs, even purebred animals with papers, should not be bred. Many wonderful pets have defects of structure, personality, or health. Animals should be proven free of these defects and only exceptional individuals should be used in an honest attempt to improve the breed. Ignorance is no excuse-once you have created a life, you are responsible for it, even if the pup is blind, crippled, epileptic, or a psychopath.
Determine that your dog is of high quality. Minimally she should: – have at least a 3 (preferably 4 or 5) generation pedigree. – come from a line having at least 4 titled dogs in the last 3 generations. – be appropriately registered with AKC, UKC, or the parent club. – fit the breed standard. – be free of genetic defects. – have a good temperament. – be capable of performing the task(s) for which the breed was developed. – be in excellent health.
Ensure that your dog is an appropriate age to be bred. They must be full grown and old enough to be screened for genetic defects. Dog who are too old may have difficulty whelping or producing milk.
Have your dog screened by your veterinarian for genetic defects, particularly those common to the breed. Some tests or evaluations must be done by specialists
If you breed your dog, you will be bringing more puppies into a world where there are already too many dogs. So many are abandoned, killed, abused every day. Step back and ask yourself WHY you want to breed her. Just think, if the people who buy her puppies would go to the pound, that many dogs wouldn’t be euthanised. It’s just something to think about.DON’T.
BTW, people are making fun of the word "bread" instead of "Breed."
She should be at least 2 years old, have eyes, hips, and elbows checked and certified before breeding, and already have been in dog shows/competitions. If not, don’t breed– she is just a "pet" quality dog and not a "breeding" quality dog. Keep her the way she is!
The second one is my favorite, and the third is specifically about Chi’s.

oh- and next. take her to the vet to get her sterilized asap.
shouldnt you be asking your mentor these questions?Get a job and quit trying to make money off of animals…there’s already too many animals that either don’t go to good homes or are put to sleep because nobody wants them. Ignorant.Well, you want a tasty breading, but not too salty.Well, for one thing, don’t allow her near a Great Dane! Please read this entire article.
