a 9month pitbull and 1year pitbull currently am feeding them pedigree and they do pretty good on that but i heard it was crap foodasking a question on which dog food is the best you will get all kinds of stupid answers, its like asking which human food is the best to eat,ALL DOG FOOD is ok just some has more stuff than others its like eating mcdonalds one day then eating a salad another day food is food just some is better than others, and for all you morons out there that said PEDIGREE is bad you need to go back to reading labels and find out that the most expensive dog food has the same ingredients that PEDIGREE has same also with NUTRO MAX .Yep, Pedigree is crap.
There’s no single "best" food for all dogs. There are plenty of good foods out there, though, but you won’t ever find them at Wal*Mart, KMart, or the grocery store.
Here’s a website that can help you choose:

You’ll see that the foods tested are rated on a "star" system, based on the ingredients. Have a look at Pedigree (among others, including the so-called "premium" brands … Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet) and you’ll notice that they’re largely corn, grain, and filler.
The best foods are those that have meat (or meat meal) as the top several ingredients.
Just a word of caution … please don’t feed your dogs a food that is too rich in order to bulk them up fast. Doing so is very hard on the dog’s skeletal system. Let your dogs achieve their maximum height and allow their bones to fully develop and strengthen before you attempt to put weight on them. A "youngish" dog should actually look thin for awhile. They’ll acquire muscle slowly once their bones are done growing. * Give your dog healthy snacks such as fruits and vegetables: apple slices, carrot sticks, orange segments, banana slices, and frozen vegetables are all canine favorites.
* It’s okay to give your dog a little bite of what you had for dinner, but only the bits you’d eat yourself–no fat or gristle, please!
* Some foods aren’t good for dogs and can cause serious health problems. These include chocolate, onions, raisins, and grapes.
* Feed your dog at the same time every day.
* Always feed your dog in his bowl or you’re asking for a lifetime of your best friend begging at the table and following you around the kitchen.
* Make sure what you buy is high in protein, not grain-based, and that it’s AAFCO-tested. The AAFCO, the American Association of Feed Control Officials, is a watchdog group that sets food-testing and labeling standards.
Here’s a good site to find out more information.

I feed mine Canidae, but she has an allergy.
You could try getting a food made by someone. Around here, some people make their own dog food (and a 40 lb bag sells for $15).
You could also make your own.
