This food has been out of production for so long now, with no end in sight (according to Nutro). I’ve switched to the Large Breed Chicken & Rice, but she seems to be a lot gassier on it. The regular Lamb & Rice formula is lower in protein and made for softer stools. Has anyone found a good replacement in a competitor’s brand? The important things would be the lamb and the 26% protein.Nutro is a food heavy in grains, in fact grain is the first ingredient and it should be meat, so this product has insufficient meat content. It’s a low rated food [2 stars] and not that healthy.
There are plenty of high quality foods out there that have Lamb in the ingredients and are free of grains. Also the product contains rice gluten which is a filler and a synthetic Vitamin K. Per the reviews:
Rice gluten is filler – that which remains after all the nutritious bits have been removed from rice grains. Oatmeal and oatbran are further grain products in the minor ingredients, but not of great account given the small quantities. We would prefer to see the use of whole eggs than egg product. We note that this product includes synthetic vitamin K, a substance linked to liver problems and that is progressively being removed from better quality dog food products.
So you might want to get off Nutro altogether. Innova EVO, Orijen, Timberwolf & any holistic brand is much better quality of foods and healthier.
check out this website and research the food, I’ve also attached a website [second link] which will tell you what to look for and what ingredients to avoid.
Good luck Speak to Nutro about this – it is a really good food, and if she was doing well on it, you should try and stick with it.
If she is no longer a puppy, the Adult Maintenance should do just fine, and if you need to adjust the protein and fat levels, you could consider a mixture of the Lite along with Maintenance to balance it out.
There are such differences between brands, and many dogs have very sensitive GI tracts – once you find one that works, it’s best to try and work with that if you can. Call the company for advice, and they should be able to help you.The thing you should strive for is quality and not quantity. Nutro, Purina, Eukanuba are not quality.
Check out these brands instead:
Canidae Lamb and Rice
Innova Evo Lamb and Rice
Orijen
Wellness
Fromms
Solid Gold
The above brands with the exception of Wellness won’t be found in any chain petstores such as Petsmart, Petsupermarket, Petco; generally these chainstores sell poor quality dogfood. They’re easily found at the mom and pop type petstores.

鈾ヅ犗壝┾€犆┾櫏I’m not sure how old your puppy is, but i moved mine to adult dog food at 6-8 months, most puppy food is loaded with hormones and excess protein…it was recommended by the rescue i got her from. It has not stunted her growth at all and currently weighs 58lbs at 10 months….
We feed Nutrisource- www.nutrisourcedogfood.com/produc… Lamb and Rice but it is 23% protein, they do have the regular adult food with the 26% protein…personally that might be a bit high for a large breed dog depending on its age.
good luck
Tried science diet, eukanuba, natural balance, and diamond naturalsI have had great results with Welness, and they make a lamb mix.

My yorkie is on wellness, as are my mother’s GSD and 7 month old Airedale. There is a national Lamb shortage so Nutro has stopped all production on any lamb and rice food other than Lamb and Rice and the small Bites.
I would try Purina Pro Plan Or Canidae Lamb and RiceMy in-laws had good luck with Purina Lamb & Rice for their older dog. They have recently moved to Eagle Pack Holistic sardine & anchovy because the dog’s system couldn’t handle the grains in Purina. I think that Canidae lamb/rice is really good.I use Natural Balance it has worked really well for our dogs.

i have a toy poodle who is a good stocky terrier size.
his personality isn’t at all the pretty little lap dog. he loves playing fetch, doing agility and running around with other dogs.
in order to keep his fur long he would have to be brushed every day. also when we get back from the fields he is covered in mud and grass hanging from his fur. it takes forever to brush it all out.
i would like to keep his puppy fur cut but have it somehow shorter.
or give him a good cut for outdoors but i don’t want to shave him or give him a traditional poodle cut.
but i am not sure what i could give him.
could u please send me some photos of fur cuts that i could show the groomer to help get the right cut.
thanks
